If a human population of 8 billion and counting is unsustainable, then population decline is inevitable. Yet natural population decline is often treated as an economic disaster. Is it really a disaster, or does it offer us a chance to mitigate the consequences of overshoot, with a reduction in the quantity of people improving the quality of life?
